If you have a business, book, podcast or even an idea of one it is worthless. Unless somebody else knows about it too. It could be the greatest idea of all time or just a business that you’ve undertaken part time to increase your income, the same thing applies. Unless somebody else knows about it you could work 90 hours a week and end up broke. You could end up broke…
Who’s this article for?
The people who’ll get the most from this have a business, or a skill that they believe will take them out of the dreaded “rat race.” A skill that will allow them to become a success at a business that they enjoy, and that eventually can be passed on for their benefit or for the benefit of their children.
They have a dream and they have a skill. It’s just that the skill isn’t public speaking or selling their speaking. For these people the 60 Seconds they might be asked to articulate their business might just as well be 60 minutes or 60 days, either way it’s a sentence. A sentence that according to Andy LaPata and Peter Roper that is feared more than death.(see “…and death came third!”
By reading this; and by taking action we could just change that… 60 Second Presentations are all about loving your business. About having the pure energy and guts to stand up and tell people time and time again about:
- What you do.
- Why they should listen to you.
- Why they should talk to you and, ultimately
- Why they should buy from you
It should be rehearsed so much that it becomes natural, it should be honed to such an extent that when the occasion arrives that the group leader tells you that, “because so many people have turned up to the meeting the presentations will need to be cut to 45 seconds.” It presents no problem.
“60 Seconds To Make Your Mark- Your Verbal Business Card” and how it can make or break you!
“We are going into your 60 second slots, who will go first?”
I’ve seen those twelve words make business people freeze with fear. Business people who have taken the trouble to get up at early in the morning or late at night to produce a business idea or podcast, looking down nervously, their chance to promote their business to many colleagues and they are frozen.
At least once a week you have the chance to inform the rest of the group, the rest of your “sales team” on which sector of business you are looking to influence at the moment. You are asking them to identify good prospects for you, to keep you in mind at all times, ask the right questions to get you an introduction to speak to a new client. You have the chance to talk to the one person who can make all the difference to your future. But. YOU have got to do the work.
What stands out here is the most important fact to remember when we give a presentation. The people you talk to care first and foremost about themselves.
What also stands out is that in those seven sentences? The word YOU is used nine times. The onus is on YOU to deliver
I suppose that in a month, networking costs me something like £80 and how much will podcasting cost? Yes, at times that worries me. So what do I do? What would you do? Stop networking stop podcasting OR make sure that every opportunity counts.
If it costs me that much and it costs other net workers that much, why are the mistakes made? The group in the room has got to understand:
- What it is you do?
- What benefit you are offering.
- How you are superior to the other businesses in the field.
As we’re told week after week this is a chance to get our names known by potential clients we may never have even spoken to before…the chance to talk to a “Dragon”
This “May Save Your Business”
Remember if you were asked to give an outline of your business in 30, 40 0r 60 seconds the person asking you could be the one person to take your business to the next level. There are six MAGIC words which you can use to get the whole room nodding their heads at the very first 30 seconds of your presentation.
